Alice in Leelaland

The show was a huge success...not that I ever doubted it. Mind you I was still sewing costumes the night of our final dress rehearsal and getting a little anxious. Then there was the stage issue. According to the Arcadia Fire Marshall, the stage could have only one set of stairs. This meant that our months of staging entrances and exit from both sides of the stage(because every other year we had both sides of the stage) had to be changed. The troupe stepped up the challenge the night before the show and re staged all the entrances and exits and for the most part all went without a hitch. Then there was the Belmont Stakes...the much anticipated race with Big Brown in contention for the Triple Crown....now mind you MEDCA (the organization that sponsors this whole thing) had arrangements and contracts well in advance of this race so there should have been no conflict at all...but there was. We were told that because of the race we were going to be put back a half an hour or more because the track did not want any music interfering with people watching the race on the TVs there....OMG, your are kidding..for a HORSE RACE...Luckily they did not hold us up..Big brown did not win and all was well with the world.
Really it was a wonderful show. Everyone preformed beautifully. There was some question about the flu hitting several of us, me included, everyone rallied. What a great group of ladies. I am so blessed to be in their company.
Now on to October...our biggest and best show of the year. P.S. I don't think I look too bad for 53 years old....

I am ready for my close up......

Well, the rehearsing is done (almost) and the costumes are sewn (and hopefully we stay together). This June show that my troupe, LSJ, dances in is a really big thing for us. It sort of sets the tone for the rest of the year. LSJ is not the standard belly dance troupe. Our incredible leader, mentor, guide, choreographer and inventive mind, Leela, comes up with some of the most brilliant concepts and this Junes show is no different. "Alice in Leelaland" is a fantasy adventure into the strange world of Alice...she ventures to Leelaland and the out come is amazing. Twelve girls, 34 costumes, feathers, giant tea cups, cupcakes, a sexy caterpillar and showgirls....oh my. So I am packed, ready for my close up!!! See you all at Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia at 4:00..don;t be late or you will not get a spot. Pictures next week...
Give a shout out to "break a leg Lori"....
